IDEAS FOR YOUR ORAL PRESENTATION

- Description of a picture (a person, a landscape, an object…)

- Comment on the topic of the picture.

- You can find pictures at www.flickr.com

- Use a dictionary www.wordreference.com

Example:

In the picture you can see a beach. On the left of the picture there is water. On the right side and in the middle of the picture there is a lot of vegetation, mainly palm trees. There is brown sand on the beach. There aren’t any people. The sky is blue. There aren’t any clouds. It is sunny. I think it is summer.

I like this picture because I love going to the beach and summer is my favourite season of the year.

DRAMA ACTIVITIES

Work with a partner or a group. LEARN one of the dialogues below and act it out in front of the class.

1. Darel and Tracy are in the caves (Chapter 1)

Tracy: Wow! I love these paintings! They’re fantastic! (She takes her camera).
Darel: You mustn’t take photographs. It offends the spirits of Uluru.
Tracy: What spirits?
Darel: Aborigines believe there are spirits in these caves and the spirits don’t like photographs.
Tracy: I don’t believe in spirits. But don’t worry. I’m not taking any photographs. Maybe they sell pictures of these cave paintings in the souvenir shop.
Darel: Yes, they do. I know because I sometimes help in the shop.

2. Max and Bob are in the caves (Chapter 5)

Max: Let’s put these paintings in the box and go! The boss can get a lot of money for these paintings, Bob.

Bob: Yes, I know. She tells them to an American art collector.

Max: How much money are we getting, Bob?

Bob: Not much. But don’t worry. I’ve got four paintings in my house. We mustn’t tell the boss about them. We can sell them and get a lot of money.

Max: The police are trying to find all the paintings, Bob. Are they in a safe place?

Bob: Don’t worry, Max. They’re safe. The police can’t find them.

3. Darel, Tracy, Mrs Taylor and Edi are talking (Chapter 7)

Tracy: Listen to this incredible story, Mum!
Darel: My grandfather’s paintings are in a cave. They’re in a box.
Tracy: And that’s not all! The thieves were in the cave, too!
Mrs Taylor: We must tell the police. Where’s my phone?
Tracy: Sorry, Mum. I dropped the phone in the cave. It was dark.
Mrs Taylor: You aren’t very responsible, Tracy! I need my mobile phone.
Edi: Where’s the cave? I want to see the box with the paintings.

4. In the cave Darel sees Max and Bob with Tracy (Chapter 10)

Max (to Darel): Don’t do anything stupid! I’ve got the girl!

(The boss enters with Darel’s grandfather).

The Boss: Put the box in my jeep! And Max, bring the girl and her friend. They’re all going on an expedition.

Max: Where to, boss?

The Boss: To the desert. They can try to walk home from there.

Darel: You can’t leave us in the desert. We haven’t got any water.

Grandfather: The police know about you thieves. They’re probably coming here now.

The Boss: Let’s go.
